Cristina Morrison
Catch a live performance from female vocalist Cristina Morrison when she appears at The Van Dyke Café tonight, performing songs from her new CD, I Love. Morrison is as worldly and well-traveled as they come. She was born in Miami and spent time living in Rome, Quito, the Galapagos Islands and Los Angeles before landing in the New York. Her original compositions are beautifully carnal while the title track is a celebration of art and free spirits. This is bright and contemporary jazz singing in the best sense of the word. The Hamlet Dog and Pony Show
Wrapping up Mad Cat Theatre Company’s 12th season, is a play written by Jessica Farr and Paul Tei. The Hamlet Dog and Pony Show is a deconstruction of Shakespeare’s tragedy, Hamlet. Miami Performance Fest
Edge Zones Projects a Miami based non-profit arts organization will host the first Miami Performance International Festival. The festival draws upon the rich local and international cultural landscapes to present masters of performance and installation art who will work alongside both established and emerging artists selected from around the world. This intensive contemporary arts event will take place at three different sites throughout Miami-Dade County: Downtown Miami, the Miami Design District and the Botanical Gardens of the City of Miami Beach. The program will explore the breaking down of boundaries between visual art, music, dance and poetry. In collaboration with a consortium of three arts institutions and curators, M/P ’12 will provide a platform and support artists to realize reflexive and culturally poignant projects. Miami will be the stage for this dynamic laboratory. The festival will include workshops, lectures and artist talks. Participating artists include Christine Brault, Irene Loughlin, Guillermo Moscoso, Carolina Schmidt, Senoritaugarte, Ismael Ogando, Grimaldy Polanco, Eduardo Balerdi, Pip Brant and Mark Holt to name a few.

The Miami Premiere of Oslo takes place tonight at the MB Cinematheque. Meet local landscapers Raymond Jungles & Margi Nothard when they sign and showcase their new book. — Landscape Architecture Now! One of the hottest areas of contemporary design is landscape architecture. Jazz at MOCA
The Jazz at MOCA AP Beach Series concert tonight will be HOT HOT HOT when flautist and saxophonist Bobby Ramirez takes the stage with Pan Con Bistec. This Afro Cuban Band performs classic Cuban dance music and Latin Jazz favorites honoring the music of Tito Puente, Mario Bauza, Celia Cruz, Jose Fajardo, Dizzy Gilespie, Machito, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Beny More, and other legendary masters of Latin Jazz. For the last 12 years, Pan Con Bistec has been performing throughout South Florida featuring saxophonist / flautist Bobby Ramirez whose creative artistic endeavors have had a significant impact on audiences worldwide, as well as helping to define the Florida Jazz sound. Bernard Eismann
Photographs by Bernard Eismann will be on display at the Artrageous Gallery in the Gables. The exhibit will open tonight with a reception at the gallery. Eismann has been taking pictures since his early teens. The images his eye seeks are of people and places, each with some hint of a story. Starting in the 1950s he worked in the news business as an editor, reporter and foreign correspondent—not a photographer– covering war, revolution , politics and natural disasters for almost 20 years. Assignments took him to all 50 states, to political conventions, presidential campaigns, to Israel, India, Vietnam, Cuba, Panama, Guatemala and the Dominican Republic as well to coverage Mercury and Gemini space missions with reports heard and seen on CBS and ABC. Linotype: The Film
“It was close to love at first sight,” Doug Wilson says, recalling his initial encounter with a Linotype type casting machine, which occurred almost nine years ago in a letterpress shop in Springfield, Missouri, where he lives. “I was fascinated by the machine. I started researching it and there wasn’t much out there. I remember thinking that someone should make a film about it. I didn’t think it would be me.” A graphic designer, letterpress artist, and now a film director and producer, Wilson has recently wrapped up post-production on the documentary Linotype: The Film, which will be screened at The Wolfsonian tonight. The screening is the film’s Florida premiere and a rare chance to view it on a large screen. Miami Children’s Museum has created a new program where one Saturday of every month, the Museum will be hosting an inclusive accessibility event. Sensory Saturday will be open to all children with special needs, their families, and friends. They will be able to explore and enjoy the museum in an accessible, educational, and supportive environment. Families will be able to interact and network with each other and learn about the available resources. Every child is a passionate learner but many children with special needs experience a hard time with abstract thinking, sensory overloads, transitions and social communications. In addition to MCM’s multisensory interactive exhibits, which invite children to touch, explore and create, the Museum will be adjusted to a sensory friendly environment with modified lighting, sound adjustments and “cool down” rooms available to relax in. Premium and Miracle
Films at MOCA will show two rarely shown films Premium and Miracle, by legendary West Coast artist Ed Ruscha.Ruscha, who is the subject of the current Museum of Contemporary Art exhibition, Ed Ruscha: On the Road (on view through September 2) is best-known for his artists’ books, paintings and photographs that document and comment on the shifting character of the American landscape. Ruscha also experimented in the film medium and these two films from the 1970s display a gift for deadpan humor. Premium is based on the Mason Williams short story “How to Derive the Maximum Enjoyment from Crackers” and stars artist Larry Bell as young lothario who invites model Leon Bing to be his crouton of love.
