Seth Meyers
Saturday Night Live’s popular comedian and actor Seth Meyers will bring the laughs tonight with fellow SNL writer Colin Jost who will open the show. A multi-faceted performer with a unique sense of humor, Meyers has been making audiences laugh for years by parodying politicians, discussing the latest headlines and poking fun at celebrity blunders. He is currently the longest tenured SNL cast member, having joined in 2001, and serves as head writer as well as anchor of “Weekend Update.” Meyers was a regular player in sketches on SNL, performing numerous characters and impressions, most notably an uncanny portrayal of Senator John Kerry for the show’s satire of the 2004 Presidential election. 9pm. $35. The 2012 Summer Concert Series continues its 27th Season with the Ahn Trio – Maria, Lucia and Angella, who  thrive on dissolving the barriers between art forms. Astral Weeks
Gallery Diet opens the second in a two-part series of exhibitions Art Blog Art Blog of Astral Weeks curated by Van Hanos. The first exhibition in the series is Leave it to Beavers curated by Gina Beavers. The show will feature work by Liz Deschenes, Brock Enright, Keltie Ferris, Brion Gysin, Rory Parks, Patrick Walsh, Jackie Gendel and Jon Kessler to name a few. This exhibition stems from the ideas and questions motivated by a single artwork by Brion Gysin. The Dream Machine is an anomaly within the history of art, the only known artwork that is fully activated as the viewer closes their eyes.  Taken as such, it suggests an evaluation of how artwork is viewed; its function, its value, and the language we use to engage with it. Jamie Ousley Trio
Bassist Jamie Ousley has been one of the most in-demand musician’s in south Florida since he moved to Miami for grad school at  UM. He has since completed his Doctorate of Musical Arts degree in Jazz Bass Performance and continues to perform and teach both locally and internationally. He is currently the Professor of Jazz Bass at FIU. Jim Gasior on piano and Carlomagno Araya on drums with special guest Nanami Morikawa. Recognized as one of Japan’s leading emerging jazz vocalists, Nanami Morikawa won the prestigious Grand-Prix at the Asakusa Jazz Competition in Tokyo and has been a featured artist at major Japanese jazz festivals. Young musicians are invited to play in an informal setting and with the common purpose of establishing a relationship around music. First is State of Siege, In Uruguay in the early 1970s, an official of the US Agency for International Development (a group used as a front for training foreign police in counterinsurgency methods) is kidnapped by a group of urban guerillas. Locust Projects is pleased to announce a collaborative exhibition by a select group of South Florida High School students. Cristina Morrison
Catch a live performance from female vocalist Cristina Morrison when she appears at The Van Dyke Café tonight, performing songs from her new CD, I Love. Morrison is as worldly and well-traveled as they come. She was born in Miami and spent time living in Rome, Quito, the Galapagos Islands and Los Angeles before landing in the New York. Her original compositions are beautifully carnal while the title track is a celebration of art and free spirits. This is bright and contemporary jazz singing in the best sense of the word.
