Film
The Beatles Yellow Submarine
Once upon a time… or maybe twice, there was an unearthly paradise called Pepperland, a place where happiness and music reigned supreme. But all that was threatened when the terrible Blue Meanies declared war and sent in their army led by a menacing Flying Glove to destroy all that was good. Enter John, Paul, George and Ringo to save the day! Armed with little more than their humor, songs, and of course, their yellow submarine, The Beatles tackle the rough seas ahead in an effort to bring down the evil forces of bluedom. The animated classic fantasy film has been digitally restored frame by frame, all by hand.  The result is a stunning version of this animated classic featuring the music of The Beatles. Directed by George Dunning. 9pm. $10.50. O Cinema, 90 NW 29th St; Miami. For info: 305-571-9970 or o-cinema.org

Finding Home

The exhibition traces the life, achievement and influences of the prolific cartoonist and author. Along with photographic reproductions, text panels, books, and video, the materials will trace Hoff’s early career and development. Sections will include Hoff’s work with the Lyrical Left in the 1930s, his New Yorker cartoons focusing on outer-borough tenement dwellers, his syndicated comics and cartoons, and the made-in-Miami/Cold War/Baby Boom children’s literature for which he is best known. Exhibition-goers will see the connection between Hoff’s storybook characters’ search for belonging to his earlier political and gag cartoons. Miami Beach Regional Library, 227 22nd St; Miami Beach. Theatre
Caligula
Havana’s most controversial theater company, Teatro El Público, in their brilliantly contemporary adaptation of Albert Camus’ classic Caligula will be onstage at the Colony tonight.   the tyrant whose love devours everything. Caligula’s weakness for masculine bodies and his intent to seduce and trample the innocence of Scipio are examples of his passion for the impossible. Others act as his game pawns, while everybody contributes in one way or another to a string of endless manipulations in this Havana-like Rome, where bodies come with a price tag and desire tucked between their lips.  The desire to defeat a body that reflects the strength and vigor of his own youthful adolescence gives the obsessive Caligula a contemporary face, turning him into an icon armed behind the mask of gayness and the glamour of the most illustrious uniforms, suggesting forms of misconduct way beyond the erotic. Featuring: Fernando Hechavarría, Carlos Caballero, Broselianda Hernández, Osvaldo Doimeadiós, Ismercy Salomón, Yeyé Báez, Lester Martínez, Yanier Palmero, Javier Fano, Yerandi Basart and Carlos Riverón. Staging and directed by Carlos Díaz. 8pm. $30.  Colony Theatre, Miami Beach. For info: 305- 674-1040 or ticketmaster.com

For over 100 years, the most significant 20th century artists and performers have lived and worked in the 165 landmark Studios atop Carnegie Hall, including Marilyn Monroe, Isadora Duncan, Barnett Newman, Norman Mailer, Marlon Brando, George Balanchine and Bill Cunningham. In 2001, the Carnegie Hall Corporation began to systematically evict the artists (some in residence for over forty years), destroy the Studios and convert the spaces into offices. Alarmed by the situation, photographer Josef Astor, a resident of the Carnegie Hall Studios for over twenty years, began to film his neighboring artists, the ballet school, drama classes, dancers, singing teachers, photographers, sculptors, painters and writers. Lost Bohemia is Astor’s intimate, affectionate portrait of these extraordinary people and is the only film documentation of the Carnegie Studios. 5pm.
