News: Fire Manager and You’ll Pay, Deede’s Firm Was Warned

[ 1 ] May 10, 2012 | Charles Branham-Bailey

The accounting firm for which Miami Beach Commissioner Deede Weithorn works was reportedly warned that it would lose business if she voted to fire City Manager Jorge Gonzalez.

Sources to the SunPost said this week that Richard A. Berkowitz, a managing partner of Berkowitz Dick Pollack & Brant, the downtown Miami CPA firm for which Weithorn serves as an associate director, received a call from a developer warning that if Weithorn voted to fire Gonzalez, the developer would pull his business from the firm.

It was also learned that Weithorn offered to resign from the firm in wake of the warning, but that her offer was turned down.

Weithorn, attending Wednesday’s City Commission meeting, declined to discuss or confirm any aspects of the matter except to say that “at the end of today, this matter will be concluded.” Berkowitz had not responded as of press time.

Another example of Intimidation a la Miami Beach. Good for you Commissioner Weithorn standing up for your principles. Now make the city’s employees follow the same course. Make them honest or show them the door. Just ask fellow Commissioner Wolfson to show you the February 18, 2012 letter I sent him. That should explain all.
