Florida Dance Theater
Lakeland based Florida Dance Theater under the Artistic Direction of Carol Krajacic-Erkes has been a popular feature at the Miami Dance Festival since 2007. The company returns with a contemporary dance program that showcases its virtuoso dancers.  Highlights of the performance include two new works by the company directors. The intimate setting at the Miami Beach Botanical Garden will bring the audience closer to the dancers and the choreography. $20. 7:30pm. Polo World Cup
Head to the eighth annual Maserati Miami Beach Polo World Cup, the world’s largest Beach Polo competition on the sands of South Beach. The four-day, sporting event features top polo players from around the world competing in two tournaments for both men and women.  Today’s event is the Women’s Polo Cup IV featuring eight women’s teams in a one-day series of round-robin championship matches.  The three-day men’s tournament, runs Friday through Sunday, April 29th.  Six teams will include some of the world’s top-ranked players, including Rico Mansur from Brazil, who will be making his second appearance at this year’s event, following his recent return from Brazil after competing in a charity fundraiser exhibition match for Prince Harry’s foundation.  20th and 22nd St; Miami Beach. A Night at the Museum
The Bass Museum of Art will host its annual fundraiser, “A Night at the Museum, tonight. The event is expected to attract more than 500 who will receive a private preview of “Charles LeDray:  Bass Museum of Art,” curated by Bass Museum of Art Adjunct Curator, Steven Holmes. Artist Charles LeDray will be in attendance. The exhibition features works from LeDray’s major traveling exhibition, including his most ambitious piece, “Mens Suits.” This is the artist’s first museum exhibition in Florida, and will focus on creating a unique dialogue between four individual, powerful works. Recycled Art Show
This fabulous show celebrates Earth Day on Miami Beach. The 2012 Recycled Art Show is a juried exhibition by the Art in Public Places Committee and is made entirely from discarded and/or recycled materials. The artwork demonstrate green values (reduce, reuse, recycle, up cycle), incorporated recycled items or used existing items in a new way and are 100% of salvaged, found, or recycled materials. Charles LeDray
Bass Museum of Art will opens an exhibit of four works by New York based artist Charles LeDray – the first presentation of the artist’s work in Miami Beach to date.  The highly anticipated exhibition, curated by Adjunct Curator Steven Homes, will include four distinct pieces from LeDray, including his major work, “Mens Suits.” LeDray meticulously labored over Mens Suits for three years. The clothes include miniaturized jackets, shirts and polo tops…even trousers, ties, bow ties, gloves and hangers. Dubstep Pool Party
The University of Miami’s radio station WVUM, The Voice, will host its first ever Dubstep Pool Party tonight, as part of its Radiothon fundraising efforts. Don’t miss the opening of Sometimes All of Me is Not Enough, the first solo exhibition of drawings and mixed media collages by artist Shoshanna Weinberger. The artist identifies with beauty both physiologically and politically, making personal connections of awkwardness as a female growing-up in a society obsessed with attaining beauty result in imagery that depicts this as distorted excess. Imagery result in malformed and decapitated bodies, with cornrow braids, un-kept locks and pigtails, mutations of multiple-mouths, breasts and buttocks, create a sense of familiarity, confusion, humor and tension. Bluebeard’s Castle
Making its U.S. premiere at the New World Center, this understated and visually evocative production of Bluebeard’s Castle features specially created projections that surround the orchestra and immerse the audience. Striking visuals depict the different rooms in Bluebeard’s castle and evoke the emotions of the two protagonists. As the story progresses, Bluebeard’s new wife Judith opens the castle’s seven doors, each revealing its own psychological horror through images of blood and torture. Miami Gay & Lesbian Film Festival
The Miami Gay & Lesbian Film Festival, opens with Kawa, A powerful coming out movie, it is gorgeously cinematic drama that tells a transcendent tale of bravery, love, family and pride. Based on the novel Nights in the Gardens of Spain by Witi Ihimaera (the writer of The Whale Rider), this deeply moving New Zealand drama tell the story of a successful, businessman, Kawa who finds the courage to tell his wife and kids, his parents and his traditional Maori community that he’s gay, the struggle he endures is not an easy one. 8:30pm. Jazz at MOCA
Vocalist Maria Rivas will headline Jazz at MOCA tonight. The Venezuelan native is known for her fusion of  Latin rhythms and World music with popular standards of Tango, Jazz and Classic rock. Art of Storytelling
Bring the kids to the very popular Art of Storytelling (AOS) International Festival Day. Put together by the Miami-Dade Public Library System, the day kicks-off with a traditional dragon dance in honor of this year’s international exchange partner: the Taipei Public Library in Taiwan. Throughout the day, kids will experience stories and tales from renowned storytellers like Alton Chung, Arianna Ross,Toni Simmons, Randel McGee, Shana Banana, Jackson Gilman and Andy Offutt Irwin. Teen Zone – a special area for 13-18 with lots of zombie and steam punk-related activities, a performance by the rock band Live School of Music and a Cosplay costume contest. From Miami Children’s Chorus comes the unusual Brundibar a children’s opera in honor of Holocaust Memorial Month. This 35-minute opera highlights the triumph of good over evil and the powerless over the mighty. It also celebrates the power of the arts to bring spiritual freedom, hope and dignity. The opera also gives voice to the idea of humanity prevailing against the forces of prejudice, racism and intolerance. Visions of Victory
This installation showcases images created by artists and printers to complement written accounts of battle from the Spanish-American War. Created in an era predating widespread photojournalism, these images―primarily periodical and newspaper illustrations, books, posters, frameable works of art, and other items―were integral to how the American and British publics formed a visual impression of the war. Roméo et Juliette
The final production of the season will be Gounod’s Roméo et Juliette, not seen at FGO since 2004. Of the many operatic treatments of Shakespeare’s play, Gounod’s has been the most enduring, with its perfect depiction of the unrestrained passion of youth, and the bitter tragedy visited on the rival Capulet and Montague families. This production stars French tenor Sébastien Guèze as Roméo. He is joined by Mexican soprano Maria Alejandres as Juliette. In conjunction with the exhibition The Record: Contemporary Art and Vinyl, on view at MAM through June 10, 2012, Miami Art Museum’s  third panel discussion, MIAMI VINYL: The History of Record-Making in Miami focuses on The mid-1990s to Now. Hosted by Lauren Reskin, owner of Sweat Records. From hip hop to abstract electronics to indie punk rock, Miami’s current musical climate encompasses far more than what rises to the surface. Come learn about what got pressed on wax in South Florida and why over the last twenty-plus years.
