Tidbits: Mayor Giminez to Speak at MB Tax Payers Association

Recently elected Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Gimenez will address members of the new Miami Beach Taxpayers Association on Wednesday, Sept. 7 during a general meeting which begins at 8:30 a.m.

“Mayor Gimenez advocates many of the same positions we do,” said Jared Galbut, president of the reorganized association.

“He favors reducing bloated government salaries and pensions and more courtesy on the part of government employees,” Galbut said.

The meeting is free and open to the general public, and a Continental Breakfast will be served.  For further information: 305-7929711.

Miami Beach Poll Workers Needed
The Miami-Dade County Elections Department is calling upon the Miami Beach community to consider being a poll worker during upcoming elections. There is a poll worker shortage and a need to recruit people who reside in Miami Beach who would like to work at local voting centers throughout Miami Beach.

Two poll worker recruitment meetings are scheduled at Miami Beach City Hall for September 7 and 9, from 9 am – 1 pm, in First Floor Conference Room. Miami Beach City Hall is located at 1700 Convention Center Drive, Miami Beach.

Several positions are available which offer the potential to earn up to $278 per election.

To apply, you must be a registered voter, be computer savvy, be fluent (read, speak and write) in English and attend a paid training class. If you’re interested, contact Miami-Dade County Elections Department’s Poll Worker Section at 305-499-8448.

North Shore Bandshell Ribbon Cutting
After 9 months of construction, the City of Miami Beach Capital Improvement Projects and Parks & Recreation Departments are thrilled to announce the North Shore Bandshell Ribbon Cutting Ceremony to be held on Friday, September 9, 2011 at 7 pm at 7275 Collins Avenue.

The main scope of the project, spearheaded by the CIP Department, included a historic restoration of the facility with structural repairs, ADA improvements to backstage area and restrooms, expansion of backstage facilities, installation of special acoustical plaster for enhanced outdoor acoustics, new HVAC system, electrical system upgrades, theatrical lighting, stage extension, accent lighting of main architectural features and more.

As part of the celebration and immediately following the ribbon cutting, the Parks & Recreation Department will also be hosting their September Movie in the Park beginning promptly at 7:30 pm.
