Letters: Purpose Behind Town Hall Meeting was Decieving
To the Editor:
Your article on The Miami Beach Town Hall Meeting really described this event. It was like, “we saw behind the curtain” and it was not a very pretty sight. It was rather deceiving as to the real purpose of the meeting. There was no freedom of speech in this Town Hall meeting as questions had to be submitted in writing and approved by a panel of 4. Mayor Bower, Commissioner Libbin and Managers Gonzalez and Fernandez had a lack of positive energy, which was passed on to a disappearing audience. The Promotional Group’s presentation, which was the reason for the Town Hall Meeting reflected limited knowledge of the Miami Beach Market and limited (if any) experience in producing anything similar. After 10 years, the city should be able to control this weekend with responsible tourists having a great vacation, and it’s profitable for business, without having a negative impact on residents.
